lots of people used hide glue, but i tried using "Liquid Nails" instead and the bonding was good. It hardens after 10 mins but i wouldn't release the wooden press till 24 hrs later. Any stray stain can be simply remove with :lighter fluid" (b'cause i am a smoker). Dun apply too much as it will soften the glue as well as the black lining tape at the edge of the guitar.
I think there are many glues you can use. I had a similar problem with a #1663 and used hide glue as it can be reheated and separated easily if further problems occur
